Why should I get a birth photographer?

Birth is a whirlwind: a wonderful and intense whirlwind. Many mothers find that after giving birth, they only have a few concrete memories of the experience. Birth photography allows mothers to see and remember all the big and small moments of their journey and, of course, those first miraculous moments when you meet your baby.

There is something so very powerful about reliving your birth experience. Like a wedding day , a birth is a day you’ll remember for the rest of your life.  Having professional birth photographs can help give those memories more depth and power.

Does any birth space NOT allow birth photography?

I photograph births throughout London & the South East of England at hospital, Midwife Led Units & of course at home births. Many hospitals will even allow me to photograph c-sections.   We will always check with your care provider to make sure they don’t have any policies that we need to take into consideration but most centres will allow two ‘supporters’ in the room with a labouring Mum.

When do you arrive?

I like to arrive when my clients are in active labour. If your care provider is doing cervical checks (which is absolutely your choice!) – I usually like to be with you from 6 centimetres onward. If you are not being checked, I come when you have an active pattern of contractions that you can’t talk or walk through.

We will be in communication before and during your labour to make sure that I come at just the right time, especially if you are a drive away.

How long do you stay?

I stay between 1-2 hours after the baby is born. I like to take pictures of your first experiences cuddling and feeding. If you are interested in further coverage (arrival of siblings, grandparents, etc…we can add that to your package).

What happens if you miss the birth?

Birth can be unpredictable! I make every effort to arrive with enough time to capture your labour, birth, and first hours together. In the event of a truly rapid labour, I still aim to tell your story (in this case…your story was a fast, unpredictable birth!) I’ll stay as long as I need to get the same amount of images you would have received if you had a longer labour or come back the following day whichever is more appropriate.

How many images can I expect?

I deliver between 200-300 professionally edited images. The exact number depends on the unique length and unfolding of your story.

Do you offer prints or other products?

I love working with my clients to produce art that they can display in their house for years to come. From birth books to prints to canvases, I offer a variety of packages and options most of which can be directly purchased from your online gallery.

Do you share every birth on social media?

I LOVE sharing empowering images of birth.  However, I absolutely respect families that wish to keep their birth images private. During our chat, we’ll discuss exactly what you do or don’t want shared. I will always honour your requests for privacy.

How many births do you take each month?

I only take on two births each month, that way we can almost eliminate the possibility of overlapping births.

I book up 3-4 months in advance. Don’t hesitate to contact me to get your birth in my calendar. If you’re contacting me near the end of your pregnancy and this is a last minute decision - please do get in touch still, some babies come earlier than planned and some babies take their sweet time so its always worth checking - even if you are calling at the beginning of your labour.

What is your pricing?

Birth photography is an investment, but it’s one worth making!  Birth & Labour photography is £1000. (£250 deposit) & C-Section photography is £750 (£150 deposit).

Can we get together to meet first?

Absolutely! I’d love to meet and chat things through, its really important that we meet and go through all the details…  just tell me when.  You should call or text me on 07956177734.
